MAINE

The first time I went to Maine was about 30 years ago. I have vacationed there over the summers ever since.

I saw an exhibit at The Farnsworth Museum in the early 80's of paintings from Monhegan Island. I was fascinated by the rugged terrain and simple rustic quality.  The following year I was on sabbatical from my teaching position and made a trip to Monhegan on a rainy day in April.  I arrived aboard the Laura B in a raging sea, and had to be literality thrown off the boat due to the rough bouncing at the dock.  Even though I arrived cold, wet and seasick, I was immediately enchanted by the Place.  On my walk up Horn Hill where I was staying at the Hitchcock House, I could hear the thunder of crashing waves against the cliffs on the back side of the island.  I raced along the trail to a cove as the light was fading and watched 20 foot (they were probably more like 12 ft) waves breaking on the rocks.  An awesome site that still burns in my memory.

I have done several paintings of Maine and Monhegan over the years but never had any made into prints until last year, as I will soon be retired from teaching, I expect to spend more time there.

Here are a few of the prints I have done so far.
