Andrew Wyeth has stated when he uses a small patch of blue in a
painting that is surrounded by a sea of browns and neutrals, that it becomes more intense
and meaningful. To me, the quilt in the Amish culture is like that patch of blue.
When seen contrasted against an old farm house surrounded by the raw, gray
weathered wood in the stark simplicity of the Amish life-style.
Reproduced from a watercolor painting.
